THE PAUSE : alive and well, and processing
edition 008 - the power of daily gratitude, and slowing down even more with yourself to embrace how lucky we are
THE PAUSE

you all loved the song to kick off our email last week, so let’s do it again ♡

a small, icy story
four days no power
we had a massive ice storm sweep across parts of ontario that took out our power on saturday evening, which is still rocking our town.
picture this: every 30-60 seconds as you try to sleep on a cozy saturday evening, you hear branches crack and trees fall - waiting for one to come crashing down on your home.
from 11pm until 4am it continued (then i finally fell asleep) - and it didn’t stop until late sunday afternoon - resulting in a loss of roughly 30% of our volume of trees at the farm. pretty heartbreaking.
many people in neighbouring towns suffered a lot more - and in the end, we were lucky for no house or car damage.
sunday we woke up to an apocalyptic scene. we were blocked in by multiple large trees on our road, unable to go anywhere. and little did we know, we were only embarking on day one with no power.

the amazing thing about small communities is everyone has a neighbourhood cowboy - and ours was out sunday afternoon pushing trees off the road with his tractor to allow us access to the world (thanks dan!!!!) - even though highways were still closed.
it’s a wild thing to see your world get turned upside down in a mere few hours. going from having access to all of the things you need in the world - to having nothing but body warmth and a roof (yes, we have a well as our water source so not even our water has been running).
diogo and i were unable to find stress relief - and my anxiety was almost at a full blown panic attack come monday afternoon. so much to clean up, so many people displaced, and friends and family looking for some sort of resolve. many still are.
a story worth sharing to help us all recognize how absolutely lucky and blessed we are to enjoy a life of warmth, comfort, convenience, and one with access to power for personal connection and household necessities.
